The seed for WNEA (Women's Network Exchange of Arizona, Inc.) started many years before its introduction in Lake Havasu City in January of 1999. Lillian Nestle, who retired to Lake Havasu City in 1986, became active in civic and political activities. She observed a need for women in Lake Havasu to be more empowered. The solution was not immediately evident.
During a temporary stay in the Phoenix area, Lillian attended monthly meetings of a women's network group, WNEA, which at that time had several active chapters. This network group was also affiliated with NAFE (National Association of Female Executives).
After returning to Lake Havasu City, Lillian's thoughts again turned to helping local women. As a way to accomplish serving local women, she decided to establish a group similar to WNEA here in Lake Havasu City. While working on an announcement and mailing list, WNEA in the Phoenix area was disbanding as another women's support group became more popular.
