| I interviewed Fernandez for some insights on his countryman Angel Cabrera, the new Masters champion.
Fernandez was in Buenos Aires, at the Nordelta Golf Club, last week watching the early stages of the Masters on television. Fernandez and Eduardo Romero, the U.S. Senior Open champion from Argentina, have been mentors to Cabrera over the years. They know Cabrera and his golf game better than anyone.
The most underrated vantage point at Augusta National Golf Club is the short game area to the left of Magnolia Lane as you enter.
It consists of a large practice green, a large bunker and enough room to hit full wedges back toward Washington Road. When the galleries build at the Masters, there are people everywhere squeezing in and stretching to get a look.
But you can always see the golfers up-close-and-personal at the short game area. It’s a terrific place to study how and why they excel in the scoring game. It’s all about technique, of course, and the best players in the world h |
